Street Fighter IV Benchmark Results & Screenshots

Street Fighter IV PC
Benchmark Results
& Screenshots.
A few days ago the Street Fighter IV PC Benchmark was released. Street Fighter IV is superb on consoles, but I have been very interested to see what the game plays like and looks like on a PC. Fortunately with this new benchmark I have been able to test this and it looks incredible.

I have used the benchmark a total of 24 times. Each time has been very impressive. I have not experienced any slowdown and the animations have been even smoother than what I have experienced on the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. Considering how great this game is on consoles, this is spectacular news for PC gamers.

The PC Settings in the menu consists of a plethora of graphical options to tweak. You can set the antialiasing from
none all the way to C16xQAA. There are also a number of resolution, framerate, texture, and shadow settings. There is simply tons to tweak if you are not getting the FPS that you desire.

The benchmark consists of 3 different fights and one scene of the original Street Fighter gang spinning in a circle. All of the fights are very exciting. Many of the moves which are shown can be very difficult to reproduce when actually playing the game. Thankfully there are some awesome accessories available for purchase that work on the PC. Especially I would recommend the
Official Street Fighter IV Tournament Edition FightStick. It is really nice that these fantastic arcade sticks are finally in stock at many online retail locations. Kudos to MadCatz for finally having the supply to meet the unprecedented demand.

My test setup for the benchmark included the following:

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 9650 @ 3.0GHz
Memory: Corsair Domainator DDR3 1800 4GB
Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 280 SSC
Display Setting: 1920x1080 60Hz
Graphic Settings: All Settings Maxed

Certainly not the newest setup, but powerful nevertheless. In case you are concerned if your PC will be able to handle this game you may want to checkout the
Street Fighter IV PC Requirements.

The above screenshot represents the benchmark score I achieved the very first time that I tested. Not bad at all! Averaging at least 60 FPS the entire bench session. V-sync was turned on, but obviously that does not guarantee 60 FPS if your system can not handle it. Very impressive considering that I had all settings maxed. The benchmark was buttery smooth.

Now this interesting. This is the result I achieved by alt tabbing out of the benchmark and then returning after it was finished. Obviously this is an absolutely awesome result. Maybe it is an NVIDIA driver issue or pehaps alt tabbing throttles the graphics card.

Needless to say I am downright stoked for Street Fighter IV on the PC. It appears that it will be an incredible experience. Street Fighter IV PC will be available on July 7th. You can purchase Street Fighter IV in two different varitions. One with a Ryu fightpad controller bundled with the game and another that comes with the game only.

Splinter Cell Conviction on PS3? Never, says Ubi

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

If you were holding out for Splinter Cell Conviction to eventually make its way to PS3, you’re out of luck. Ubi just said on its forums that it really is an MS exclusive thanks to a “link of heart” between the franchise and the platform.

“Splinter Cell Conviction is a true Microsoft exclusive title and there are no plans to have Splinter Cell Conviction on other platforms,” said the company.

“There are several reasons behind this choice. First of all, Splinter Cell games are historically linked with Microsoft platforms. The first Splinter Cell on the original Xbox was one of the first games to fully exploit the console’s technical possibilities. At that time, Microsoft really believed in the game potential and provided strong support to promote it. So, there is a “link of heart” between the franchise and the platform. Some games are like this (think of Final Fantasy for instance).

“The second reason behind this choice is purely linked to production. Having a single target platform means that we can optimize the game even further, because we only have one type of - console - hardware to support.”

It’s out at the end of this year. Assuming you’re not solely reliant on PS3, obviously

Gears of War 3 re-confirmed?

No-one seems to remember way back in 2006 when Gears of War first came out, from day one it was set to be a trilogy, though over the last few months Epic have said things like “There are no plans for a GoW trilogy” and they were handling things on “a game by game basis.” Yet now it seems a third title MIGHT be coming. Hit the jump for more info.

Recently speaking to Official Xbox Magazine UK Cliff call me Cliffy B, oh wait don’t blah blahBleszinski shut down rumors that he may be working on a new survival horror game, saying:

No, I’m not making a horror game next. Gears is very much near and dear to me. There’s only been two Gears games, man, there’s still plenty of opportunities for things you can do in a cover-based shooter, and there’s still a lot of stories to tell in the Gears universe. I’m not burned out on that at all.

New? Well that cannot be the single player element to the Dark Corners pack (Road to Ruin), that was a “deleted scene” from Gears 2. It wouldn’t take a conspiracy theorist to think that another game could well be in the works. What are your theories? Let us know

Gran Turismo 5 in November?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
As soon as PS3Center heard of the rumored date for Gran Turismo, we immediately expected it to be false. Many retailers use dates such as these as place-holders, but what makes this situation more perplexing is that Play.com are claiming that this date was received by the publisher of the game i.e. Sony.

But here's a few reasons why November 27, 2009 isn't Gran Turismo 5's release date.

1. Looking around Play.com release list, you'll notice that they have a large amount of games listed for release on November 27, 2009. These include MAG, Uncharted 2, Ratchet & Clank 2, Metal Gear Solid: Rising, White Knight Chronicles and Super Mario Galaxy 2 among others.

I think you can immediately see where this is going. There is no way that so many games would come out on the same day.

2. Another reason against this release date is the fact that it wasn't announced at E3. E3 is the biggest trade show for games, it would make sense for Sony to announce the game's release date at E3 but they didn't.

One of the major reasons for a possible late November release date is:

1. The fact that the game's director has been saying that they could release the game at any time.

2. Gran Turismo 5 is more popular in Europe than it is in North America and Japan combined, with the previous iteration of the game shifting 6.28 million units in Europe alone, compared to 2.97 million in North America. For this reason it makes a lot of sense for the developers to announce the game's release date at gamescom which takes place in Europe on the 19th August.

3. It would really help Sony. Gran Turismo is a system seller, more so than any other PlayStation franchise. Releasing this game in November, in time for the holiday season means PlayStation 3s will sell like hotcakes.

Reasons for and against, but still if Gran Turismo 5 does hit this year (which I doubt), it would be very bad news for Sony's competitors.
